WHAT IS THE LOCKERLENDS WEBSITE ABOUT

This website is not about any particular individual dancer or group. It’s not just about who did what. Although we try to recognize all original era and subsequent legends that contributed to its message during trying times in American history.    It’s not about the commercial success of an one act or performance.  It is about something greater than money & fame it’s about the streetdance itself and its significance to the cultural /political movement of its era of origin. And how ALL of that came about. We believe , we have done the dance world and it’s true pioneers an injustice arguing over individuals as sole creators Our purpose is to simply to protect and preserve a wonderful part of the struggle in African American black and brown history. and provide truth in a movement in dance that can be authentically embraced by people of all races and color  “Educate B4U Recreate” We have seen down through the years where the actual technique and moves have been primarily emphasized in the teaching  of the history of these early street dances of the modern era. we have seen fame dictate the perception. In order to receive  the credit for these dances popularity or fame that the entertainers have occurred , It was often believed that they should not reveal where and how they learned what gave them the opportunity.  Instead They allow the masses to believe it all came from them and is their idea. the power of the cambellocking STYLE that was created by Don Campbell style and its importance in developing into a community based movement in streetdance , that became a streetdance subculture aligned with the struggle of the times are connected but different And that’s the deception facing true history Preserving a cultures foundation and history is not living in the past!. It is developing a base upon which to build a future. It is a foundation that must be built before others can change its purpose by setting a criteria that is false to its history.  It is all through the African American experience where a loss of history has given an opportunity  to those seeking to rewrite it. Streetdance is the one thing created from the realness of a need.To lose that changes the ENTIRE movement of hiphop & all street dances associated to it by eliminating its message of purpose This website is dedicated to not only include the fun of learning about these dances, but to dispel the myth that is  strictly a minstre entertainment dance not connected to a serious culture. But to inform of its history and connection to a movement that involved a social political purpose in music, poetry  DANCE     We hope you enjoy the videos, pictures and foundational information and instruction. as you are with many down through the decades who are attracted to represent the wonderful feeling, of both the freedom of the Campbellocking “STYLE” with the cultural rendition featuring the style of dance with the art-form that evolved called by its streets of origin as“LOCKING”    Editor:
