Donald Campbell

DonCampbell RIP “Campbellock “The creator of a dance style called “Campbellocking” Don is regarded as the Godfather of the Campbellocking style of streetdancing,This created a subculture of fashion , jive talk, within anxiety wide streetdance  movement referred to as simply locking . He created his signature Locking move, “The Lock”is where his arms hesitated with hits and pauses. He combined it with a unique way of gestureing, he added various stunts , and splits that evolving from the 1960s, with his style of doing the social party dances of the 1960s early 1970s.

These are the things that was  adapted by him into his unique rhythm that created the STYLE of dance first known as Campbellocking,

His style was first done in the social party couples setting. with couples leading and following each other. Don often interjected his style within the many dances that were being done in the party sessions ,And so did other pioneers who began to use his style as they partied with their own dancing. This caused the style to soon began to evolve. As it developed itsoon evolved into a sub culture that developed into a streetdance  art form that simply became known as “Locking” . Don was an original member the Soul Train Gang, where the exposure of the style became national And the STYLES popularity prompted one of the first improvisational stage performances under a group of dancers named after him they were first called “The Campbellockers”or  Campbellock dancers,  who performed their solos without choreography 

At that same time unison choreography of steps were being developed that were now associated with the campbellocking style of dancing. The Campbellocking style had prompted other pioneers to feature his style along with robotics in other to produces duos and trios, who could dance in unison in parties which led to  groups and crews that could perform full choreographed shows and perform actual choreography featuring the Campbellocking style.. as these unison and footwork steps were done in clubs and house parties, Don himself learned other pioneers steps and moves that were being done.As the street subculture of Cambellocking grew into a street dance art form. Don Campbells legacy grew as it represented the social /political message of the street movement coming out of the 1960s.This prompted Don Campbell to combined the unison steps of other original Locking crews with some of the original pioneers to and form the famed group “The Original Lockers” Don was A dynamic soloist, known for his show stoping dives and splits.

This is why he is considered The Godfather of a unique movement of streetdance
