THE TIME LINE OF LOCKING

INFLUENCE & TIMELINE TO LOCKING

NOTE :.. The link below is to the chronological tracking of street dance from Juba to cramping , chronologically tracks African american dance from the 1600s to the present, emphasizing such important issues and events , as mistrial, black face , and black imitation , but it does not include the street and party styles from the 1960s & 70s, through Locking ,Robot, Popping B Boy , HipHop and other street contributions , however we found it important to post this site so there may be a better understanding of the exploitation and misuse of black dance creativity, so those uneducated can understand our need to protect todays contributions from experiencing the same, why are there those who are so protective of the cultural connection.. here is your answers

CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT 1960s

The gestures , handshakes and hairstyle and fashion coupled with the social conscious music of the 1960s civil rights movement had a profound affect of the evolution of the social party dances of the 50s & 60s into the street style dances of the early 1970s. The social issues sparked the passion while the street movement created the energy inspired by music for social change this created what staxx recording company owner Al Bell  termed “the visual manifestation of the spoken word” ,, STREET DANCE ,,,

THE INTERNATIONAL SPREAD OF LOCKING

some of the first international exposure was done by the release of Videos like Breaking one  & two staring several street dancers including an original member of the group the Lockers .this movie confused the international scene because the title was breaking a street dance associated with the east coast. but featured mostly popping a robotic style from the west coast and the Lead actor was Shabba doo a Locker from the west coast . so the international scene began the  was initially exposed to mis information . in the mid 70s a soul train group called something special featuring various dancer ( see acknowledgement page ) featuring various social party dance styles including Jimmy “scooby doo foster displaying the Locking style , this group fwas asias first hand experience . but not its most profound . in the early 80s , original GoGo brother Tony GoGo relocated to Japan and has developed a locking scene for almost 40 years to the asian market. thought these past four decades various dancers have either interacted personally or through internet videos each developing locking , popping and hiphop communities around the world. all developing liaisons bringing sometimes accurate but often in accurate information back. to the now many events which offer classes and competitions within international events. Many international dancers are now claiming original status as pioneers to their individual countries. often without thorough knowledge. But there are some who have studied the social history and respect the culture of these dance styles to them we greatly appreciate you keeping it real in spreading this wonderful artform
