What is Campbellocking or Locking ? The cultural dance art form of Locking evolved from the popularity of the “STYLE” of Dance that Don Campbell created and termed “Campbellocking”

Cambellocking is a way of doing many dances. And  that way became Don Campbells style of dancing. What was created by Don Campbell was his way of doing the popular social dances of the times “The  breakdown , “The rocksteady””The Funky Chicken” , he even incorporated the early steps used by Charles “Robot ” Washington of the “Robot Shuffle”where he periodically began adding the hits or hesitated moves.  that he called the Lock. The story goes that dancers on the side would laugh and say do that lock move Campbell and thus it was deemed ‘The Campbellock”

He also used gestures of acknowledgement and greetings from street culture of the 1960s, which included pointing at people, the street acknowledgement of giving or asking form the handclap refers to as giving  fiv ,Within his social party style of dancing Campbellocking began into its evolutionary stage toward a cultural streetdance subculture and movement in streetdance, where. other dancers picked up on the style and began doing dances adding to style, this created a street culture in dance that involved fashion, language , and legends of character  representing the street culture with the style, on the Streets of Los Angeles , Watts , Compton , and Inglewood street respect was the ticket to the party scene on the then dangerous streets. And Locking became the term of all that was developing Dons style into a cultural Art form.  , just as Don had added things developing the style to various personalities. The early street developers added things that could be actually taught and categorized. they could be done in unison to create both improvisational choreography and eventually charted choreography.This subculture developed in the streets and included many who are now known and many who contributed but was left unrecognized by a commercial industry. that changed the narrative from one of a cultural history with a street movement of a message. to simple entertainment.
